This page is for those who have taken part in an Explorathon event as a teacher.

The events programme runs from September 2024 to February 2026.

Thank you for taking part in an Explorathon event at UHI Institute for Northern Studies. Can I ask you to download and fill out the evaluation form below and return to ins@uhi.ac.uk

Explorathon, a programme of events making research accessible to the general public funded by UKRI, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and for the first time UHI is part of the Scottish universities consortium delivering the project.

UHI Institute for Northern Studies are leading on the ‘Researchers in Schools’ part of the project and will be working closely with Highlands and Islands schools and the UHI STEM Coordinators.

Our work programme will increase young people’s interest in research careers and research topics, increase understanding of how research can impact their lives, and increase the uptake of STEM subjects by traditionally under-represented groups. We will be focusing on a predominantly virtual programme of workshops, talks and practical sessions, including some co-produced with young people, involving marine science, tourism, intergenerational engagement and upskilling teachers in embedding research in the curriculum. The team is led by Prof Donna Heddle and includes Judith Munro from UHI Inverness, Dr Steve Taylor from UHI North, West and Hebrides, and Prof Ben Wilson and Mia Leng from SAMS.

Thank you.
